The first Big Brothers Big Sisters Wing Fling will be held September 18, 2010 from noon to 6 pm at the Winchester Armory just off Route 50 East at 181 Pendleton Drive. All proceeds will benefit the programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winchester, Frederick & Clarke Counties.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters Wing Fling is a new event in which restaurants from around the region prepare and serve a variety of wing offerings from hot to mild, Buffalo style, barbecue, grilled, fried, Asian, nuclear hot and everything in between. The wing vendors compete for a People’s Choice Award and will be judged by attendees. Your entry ticket is your ballot. Ballots will be cast throughout the day and will close at 5 pm. The winner will be “crowned” the People’s Choice Award winner and have bragging rights.
There will also be a Corn Hole tournament, live music, your favorite Budweiser beverage and booths selling other food.
Each entry ticket comes with 5 food tickets. These tickets are the “money” for the day. They can be used to “purchase” a taste of wings from the restaurants, purchase a non-alcoholic beverage or another food item. A “taste” is two wings. Additional food tickets are available for purchase at the entry ticket booth and one inside the Armory. The cost for food tickets is: $1 for 1 ticket.
Tickets to purchase beer will be sold separately at a cost of $3 per ticket per cup. We ID everyone at the gate and provide a wrist band be worn by every guest. Wrist bands designating that the guest is of age are required to purchase beer.
There will be a Cornhole Tournament run by Winchester VA Cornhole as well as a few boards that Wing Fling guests can try. Teams can pre-register at http://winchestervacornhole.com or info@winchestervacornhole.com or by Noon at the Wing Fling. The tournament will start at 1 pm.
Each person on the team will need to purchase a ticket to the Wing Fling to get you into the Corn Hole Tournament. $5 from each ticket purchased will go into the pot for the winning team. The total cash prize for the winner is dependent upon the number of teams entered.
No outside food or drinks allowed.
It has been called many things, Corn Toss, Bean Bag, Bean Toss, Soft Horseshoes, Indiana Horseshoes, but to many the game is passionately referred to as Cornhole.
The game is great fun for all ages and can be played anywhere!
Cornhole is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes. Contestants take turns pitching their corn bags at the cornhole platform until a contestant reaches the score of 21 points. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point.
Scoring can be swift and the lead may change hands several times in a match before the winner is decided.
The game is generally played tournament style with an individual or team being named the champion at the end of the tournament. - American Cornhole Association.
